Occupation Plan (SEOP)

Purpose of the SEOP

Public education has the mandate to develop within the hearts and minds of each new generation the qualities of a moral populace, strong scholars, committed citizens, and active workers.  The founding fathers knew that without these qualities, provided through public education, our nation would not long endure. The City Academy accepts this mandate and focuses its work around the four primary purposes of public education:

  • Essential Learning Skills
  • Civic Responsibility
  • Career Preparation
  • Personal Development
Educators collaborate with individual students and their parents to form a plan of action (SEP/SEOP) which ties these four primary purposes to the needs and goals of the student through the instructional process.

Questions and Answers About The SEOP

  • What should  I  expect from an SEOP conference?
The SEOP conference includes a review of each student’s strengths and accomplishments followed by a plan to reach individual goals in each of the four purposes of education.  This process helps to prepare  students with the skills, knowledge, values, and commitment to life-long learning necessary for successful and satisfying adult lives.
  • Is registration just another form of the SEOP?
Registration  is one  part of the SEOP plan to achieve student goals.

  • What if I don’t have a career goal?
The SEOP helps students plan and focus around individual  interests and  abilities.  Developing an education and career  plan provides a more meaningful education experience.

Why does the SEOP  plan around the four purposes of education?
Goals in each of these areas are important in developing well rounded individuals.
  • Essential Learning Skills are  necessary  to be successful in today’s competitive world.
  • Career Preparation  ensures that citizens who are employable and productive are essential in a free enterprise system.
  • Personal Development helps students  understand themselves and their own interests, talents and abilities.
  • Civic Responsibility is critical to fully participate in society and to support both individual dignity and the common good.

Planning at Home

Students and parents  review information  provided by the school prior to the SEOP conference.

Access the SEOP internet site  using a personal ID and PIN number to view current student progress.

Planning at School
School counselors are  trained  in educational and career guidance.  Counselors and educators administer  academic tests, career  and interest assessments, and help interpret results for continual growth and planning.  They   advise students on course selection, career training and college options.  The SEOP is much more than just an annual conference.  Activities  that help students  become aware and explore their dreams are part of curriculum and instruction, class assignments,  school activities,  civic  and service learning and personal enrichment.  The SEOP conference is an opportunity to celebrate student achievement, evaluate and adjust goals, and  develop a plan.

SEOP CONFERENCE

Each year the student, parents, and educator will plan, monitor and manage each students learning experience through the SEOP.  The school will contact you for your individual appointment.
